Q: I am testing a 110v transformer with a PrimeTest 100, selecting a Class I test. I have the necessary leads and attachments; however the transformer does not have any exposed earthed parts! How would I perform this test?

A: As the appliance has no exposed earthed parts to attach your probe to, the possibility of electrical leakage occurring is greatly minimised. This is due to the casing effectively providing insulation in the event of a live wire making contact with the internal parts of the appliance. For this reason you would make a note that the continuity test cannot be completed due to the lack of an exposed earth test point, and then simply complete the insulation test. Performing a thorough visual inspection prior to any test being started would be essential.
