You may come across some class 1 equipment which has no exposed earthed metal parts, this makes the earth continuity test impossible to carry out.

Many people would just test the item as Class 2 instead, but this is bad practice and creates false results in your database.

Instead we should omit the earth continuity test and record a supporting comment. The duty holder must then alter the risk assessment relating to this item.

The manufacturer will always remain the ultimate authority on testing its products so where possible seek guidance from the manufacturer.
