Test to BS EN 60335-1 with our Household Appliance Testers

Test to BS EN 60335-1 with our Household Appliance Testers

Production line testing to BS EN 60335-1 with our household appliance testers

We have comprehensive household appliance testers to meet your requirements.

Does your company manufacture household applainces?

If so are your products routinely tested at the end the production, in line with BS EN 60335-1?

This product standard recommends that 100% of all manufactured items are subjected to an end of line Electrical Safety Test to ensure the manufacturing process has not compromised the overall safety of the product.

End of line testing can offer many benefits to a manufacturer of Electrical products. Safety of course being the main reason to perform tests, but in addition a comprehensive electrical safety test can highlight poor components, areas for improvement in manufacture and equipment operational status ensuring that you know the product tested was working as intended before shipping. Potentially saving in the repair and replacement of expensive, “out of the box”, failures.

BS EN 60335-1 recommends the following test regime for a product in compliance with this standard.

BS EN 60335: HOUSEHOLD AND SIMILAR APPLIANCES
ELECTRICAL TESTS
Routine Production Line Tests – As per Annex A (Informative)
Earth/Ground Bond

Routine test current >10A (a.c or d.c) from <12V AC source

Resistance 0.1 Ohm fail limit for products without supply lead, 0.2 Ohm fail limit for products fitted with supply lead

Test time not specified for routine testing, however we would recommend at least 2s

Functional/Run

The appliance should be checked by inspection or appropriate test to ensure that incorrect connection or adjustment of components does not have safety implications.

The functional test can also be used to observe power consumption of the item under test to ensure it is functioning as expected.

Flash/Hipot/Dielectric Withstand

Minimum Test Voltages

Operating Voltage greater than 150V.
1000V AC– Basic Insulation
2500V AC – Double / Reinforced Insulation

Operating Voltage equal to or less than 150V.
800V AC– Basic Insulation
2000V AC – Double / Reinforced Insulation

Class 3 appliances tested at 400V regardless of rated voltage

Test time at least 1s

5mA trip current, but can be increased if known higher leakages exist in the product.

Alternatively the Insulation may be subjected to a DC voltage of 1.5 times those described above if deemed a more suitable test. For example where mains filtering circuits cause a higher current flow, masking the true leakage current.

The high voltage transformer is to be capable of maintaining the specified voltage at the limiting current
