Seaward Supports International Women’s Day

This year’s theme for International Women’s day is #ChoosetoChallenge and as we proudly employ 55 highly skilled women professionals who all play a key part in the day to day running of our business; we support the #ChoosetoChallenge to further a gender equal world without any bias from whatever source but particularly those of gender.

Our women colleagues fulfill roles that are spread from Senior Management level to Production Operators. Each one a vital contribution to our ongoing success. Some of our colleagues started as apprentices and some have been with us for over 30 years. Their roles were achieved based on merit, because we believe and are a meritocracy, where discrimination of any kind is unwelcome.

Our message this year is challenging gender bias, often unconscious, sometimes overt, but always unnecessary and unjustifiable. Statistics show over 73% of women experience bias and our challenge is to stop this happening and create fair workplaces for everyone, free of gender bias.

Our CEO, Chris Callan explains:

“I have had the privilege to work with people from many different backgrounds, of all genders, races, religions, orientations and I have seen first-hand some of the obstacles people face because of differences. I want us to do everything we can to help allow people to overcome those obstacles and to develop and grow within our team. International Women’s day is a great way to celebrate and encourage achievements by the women in our team and I hope this might encourage at least one person to take the next step to overcome an obstacle”.

We fully support International Women's Day, because without them, Seaward wouldn’t be Seaward.

Being a company based in the North East of England, we are proud of the public figures in our area, such as Steph Houghton, Savannah Marshall and Alice Hall, and you can find out more about these amazing and inspirational women in the links below.

Bias is holding women back in the workplace - and it’s up to each of us to challenge it.
